The men question Alices father about a pass, which allows him to visit his wife. Her father tries to explain the men about the loss of the pass but the men do not pay any attention to him. Instead they marry him to a tree and one of the white man starts to whip him for see his wife without the permission of Tom Weylin, the owner of Alices father. Tom Weylin hinder him to see hi s wife, he ordered him to choose a new wife at the plantation, so he could own their children. Since Alices mother is a free woman, her babies would be free as well and would be unless from slavery. But her freedom status does not stop one of the patroller to cowpuncher her in the face and cause her to collapse to the ground. Meanwhile, you can hear the dissension of the whip clutching against the back of Alices father. He forces himself to stay quiet pop up the stairs this unbelievable anguish and humiliation in front of his family. His face shows the pain and he is sweating but still no sound, until he breaks down and starts to beg for forgiveness. After a while, the white man who happens to be a patroller stops whipping him and with the help of the other patrollers he unties him from the tree and turns him roughly and ties his hands in front of him.
